Some of us realize Palestine’s status as an independent nation was never going to improve regardless of who was elected US President. The plight of the Palestinian People has never been of serious relevance regardless of which administration held the White House. So now you have the prospect of a Businessman such as President Donald Trump filling the shoes of the likes of Bill Clinton, George W Bush and Barack Obama. Having no Diplomatic Experience of his own Trump may not be ideal for such a role as “Peace Maker” but his Predecessors were no good at that job either.
The problem is the excessive support given to the State of Israel by US politicians seeking the Presidential office (along with Jewish Campaign Money).
Of course Palestinian Political Leadership has never been strong enough to stand up for its own right to sovereignty. The President Mahmoud Abbas is now in the 11th year of his extended four year term. He is past 80, in poor health and the Fatah West Bank Regime has yet to name a successor. In a General Election it is widely believed that Hamas could defeat Fatah. However the Resistance Religious Group is known to be on the United States “Terrorist Watch List”. Relations with Israel couldn’t get any worse apart from a plan to legitimize thousands of illegal Israeli Settlements in the West Bank. The latest legislation by Israel’s far Right Wing Party The Jewish Home Party led by Naftali Benette passed in the Knesset between 60 and 49 of the votes. International Condemnation of the law was quick to follow.
As the far right in Israel’s ruling coalition successfully pass this Bill, Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu has warned that this will lead to all of them being put on trial in the Hague. Well if you ask me that was long overdue. The Hypocrite Benyamin Netanyahu and his ilk have established 55 illegal outposts and 4000 housing units in the West Bank already, while Hamas-held Gaza has become a hell hole since the bombing in January 2015.
Certainly the oppression of Gaza continues unabated, last year it was reported that Egyptian Army Forces had flooded the tunnels Gazans had used to cross the Sinai and killed at least four workers responsible for maintaining them. The economic blockade on Gaza has proved to be harsh and merciless towards the people. Certainly most in Gaza and the West Bank take a dim view of the stalled “peace process”. About twenty three Palestinians including nine children between the ages of nine and fifteen have been abducted overnight from the West Bank and Occupied Jerusalem by Israeli Security Forces. Israel wants the Palestinians to enter into direct face to face talks with them, but the Palestinians are refusing to do so. No wonder as Israel seems to be more interested in a land grab and extending its borders to include the West Bank which they refer to as “Samaria and Judea”. This will ultimately lead to another protracted drawn out conflict between the two sides. As sad as all this sounds, Trump does not have the patience for this degree of mediocrity and will eventually abandon the State of Israel to its own vices while Syria’s Bashr Al Assad will move in to claim the Golan Heights. The Palestinians regardless of who is in charge by then will ally with Assad against Israel! Don’t be so surprised when this happens as even Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Israel are the best of allies. Desperate times make for strange bedfellows indeed!
