The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says it has a team evaluating asset forfeiture to ensure those implicated in state corruption particularly at Passenger Rail Agency of South African (Prasa) are held accountable.
The United Democratic Front (UDF)’s veterans have given NPA head Shaun Abrahams a day to freeze the assets of those involved in corruption at Prasa.
At a picket outside the NPA offices last month, the UDF delivered a letter signed by about 130 UDF veterans‚ demanding that action be taken against people implicated in state corruption.
The veterans have questioned how the investigation by the NPA has taken over two years and nobody has been charged.
The NPA’s Luvuyo Mfaku says the process of asset forfeiture is in an advanced stage.
But UDF veterans’ Zackie Achmat says the process is long overdue.
