Cape Town – Reclaim the City activists gathered outside Western Cape Premier Helen Zille’s official residence early on Thursday morning following a call to hold authority accountable.
According to Twitter posts, the gathering was aimed as “a wake-up call” and to “remind her [Zille] of her commitments”.
In a media release, Reclaim the City called for the suspension of the provincial Department of Transport and Public Works’ rezoning application for the Helen Bowden Nursing home as well as the Somerset Hospital Precinct area.
“The suspension should be until such time that any development plans for the precinct be aligned to spatial justice and the premier’s own public commitments,” the organisations said.
Zille, however, tweeted that she was not in Cape Town at present, and asked Reclaim the City to contact her office to set up a meeting to discuss their concerns.
