Radio Al Ansaar Profile

Radio Al Ansaar
Durban 90.4fm /Pietermaritzburg 105.6fm
Radio Alansaar aims to be the voice of the Muslim community in and around Durban, inspiring and empowering the Ummah with quality programming.

With most of the media being controlled and influenced by non-Muslim organizations, it was only a matter of time before a group of Muslim visionaries who had founded the Al Ansaar Foundation back in 1994 began toying with the concept of Islamic community radio. The public needed a radio station that would educate, uplift and ultimately unite the Muslim community.

Initially, Radio Al Ansaar operated as an annual radio station, broadcasting for only 45 days during the period surrounding Ramadaan, the Muslim holy month of fasting.

The Al Ansaar Foundation worked tirelessly to secure permanent broadcasting rights and in August 2012, the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) finally awarded the Al Ansaar Foundation a 5-year renewable license to broadcast 24/7 on the 90.4fm bandwidth, an achievement for the Muslim community of South Africa. During June 2014, ICASA had awarded the Al Ansaar Foundation a further license to broadcast in Pietermaritzburg on the 105.6fm bandwidth.

Embracing all of humanity

Under the umbrella of the Al Ansaar Foundation, Radio Al Ansaar is affiliated with various community outreach programs assisting the underprivileged, co-hosting career and religious seminars etc. It is also important to note that even though Radio Al Ansaar is predominantly Muslim based, there is still no discrimination in terms of religion, as many of our employees and invited guests come from other religious affiliations.

Looking ahead…

After being awarded the Pietermaritzburg broadcast license by the ICASA, Radio Al Ansaar is now expected to grow its target audience by almost 300,000 new listeners, thus reaching a bigger community and increasing exposure for both listeners and sponsors alike.

With a revamped programme line-up, interactive phone-in segments, special invited guests, dynamic presenters and a dedicated team comprising of technicians, administration and support staff, Radio Al Ansaar is the only community based Muslim radio station in Kwa Zulu Natal.
