ProtestorsDurban – A group of protesters from shack dwellings near Springfield on Wednesday petrol bombed two trucks, including a municipal truck, at the Umgeni Interchange near the N2.

Police were at the scene to stabilise the situation. The incident happened at 14:30.

The group of about 50 people had on Wednesday morning – at about 05:00 – blockaded the road with burning tyres complaining about service delivery, said KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala.

“They set alight a municipality truck during that incident,” she said.

A case of public violence and malicious damage to property was opened at Sydenham police station.

Garrith Jamieson, spokesperson for Rescue Care paramedics, said two people sustained minor injuries during that incident.

“Two people aged 29 and 35 received minor injuries,” he said.
